Jeremy Dejno Named AVCA National Player of the Week

Irvine, Calif. -- UC Irvine outside hitter Jeremy Dejno was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week.

Dejno helped the No. 1 ranked Anteaters to three victories on the way to capturing the UC Santa Barbara Invitational Championship. After defeating then-No. 15 Cal Baptist and then-No. 7 Long Beach State by racking up a combined 15 kills, he saved his best match of the weekend for the championship match.  Against then-No. 6 UCLA, the Wisconsin native hit .481 on 13 kills without an error in 27 swings. He also added seven digs and two aces.  He also had a great passing match, not committing a single passing error in 25 attempts against the Bruins, finishing the weekend with a .935 passing percentage.

This is Dejno's first national award and the 21st time in program history a UC Irvine player has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week.

Top-ranked UCI will host No. 4 Pepperdine tonight (Jan.8) at the Bren Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. and No. 8 USC on Friday (Jan. 11) with first serve at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren.
