HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. --- Former UC Irvine Anteater, Whitney Pavlik (2004-05) and partner, Jenny Kropp, won the Huntington Beach Open to win the Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series national championship Sunday in Huntington Beach.
The pair faced the team of Lauren Fendrick and Rachel Scott and posted a 21-14, 21-18 win in the title bout. Kropp totaled 17 kills and three blocks while Pavlik chipped in eight and had three aces.
Earlier in the day Kropp and Pavlik had to get past Brooke Miles and Tyra Turner as the duo won 21-17, 17-21, 15-10.
In Saturday's qualifying rounds, Kropp-Pavlik posted wins against Sarah Day and Michelle Williams (21-19, 21-19), Fendrick-Scott (21-18, 21-16) and Kathryn Babcock-Megan Wallin (21-18, 21-17). In the tournament, Pavlik totaled 51 kills and nine aces. Kropp knocked down 73 kills to go along with 11 blocks.
Pavlik and Kropp captured their sixth Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Series win of the season and will end their season in Thailand at the FIVB World Tour event, Oct. 23-28.
