Rex Nelson Earns Big West Athlete of the Week Honor

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine senior Rex Nelson has been named the Big West Conference Athlete of the Week in men's cross country following his season-opening performance last Saturday.
Nelson finished second of 229 runners in the adidas/UCI Invitational with a time of 24:57.5 over the 8,000-meter course at the Anteater Recreation Center Fields.
His showing helped the 'Eaters to a fourth-place finish in the 19-team field.
This is the second Big West weekly cross country honor for Nelson, a graduate of Newport Harbor High School.
UCI returns to action Sept. 29 at the Stanford Invitational.
