
Sparks Earns Summer Collegiate All-America Honors

IRVINE, Calif. --- Taylor Sparks, who will be a sophomore this year at UC Irvine, was named to the Summer Collegiate All-America third team, as announced by Perfect Game.
Sparks played with the Wenatchee AppleSox of the West Coast League and also garnered WCL Player of the Week honors after leading the club to its fifth league crown last week. Sparks played in the outfield and led the league in home runs with nine while boasting a .388 average, second-highest among the league leaders. Sparks drove in 30 runs, including recording six RBI and hitting .364 in the post-season.
Also highlighting a stellar summer, Sparks won the Home Run Derby, blasting 11 round-trippers prior to the WCL All-Star Game.
Anteater catcher Jerry McClanahan, playing for the Kelowna Falcons, was named a WCL All-Star. McClanahan batted .295 over the summer while posting 31 hits and 17 RBI. He tied for second on the team with four home runs to go along with six doubles and a triple.
