July 06, 2012 | Men's Volleyball
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - Four former UC Irvine men's volleyball players are members of the 12-man roster selected to represent the United States at the 2012 Pan American Cup on July 9-14 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Anteater players include outside hitter Jordan DuFault (2007-10), middle blocker Dan McDonnell (2011-12), opposite Carson Clark (2009-12) and setter Ryan Ammerman (2006-2009).
The team has been training at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif., and will hold a Red versus Blue scrimmage at 5:00 p.m. on tonight (July 6) at the Tstreet Volleyball Club in Irvine.
"This is a very talented group of gentlemen that are the future of USAV," said U.S. Men's Pan American Cup head coach Shawn Patchell. "The team has trained well and improved every day. We started with 25 athletes so this was truly a competitive tryout."
In the Dominican Republic, the U.S. Men's Pan American Cup team will play in Pool B along with Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela. Pool A will include Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago.
"Many players from this team have trained with the players on the World League and Olympic rosters all summer so they are excited to get their chance for the podium," Patchell said. "Many players on this roster will make the 2013 World League Team and be a part of the 2016 quad."
