
Crumlich To Pittsburgh In Ninth Round

IRVINE, Calif. ---D.J. Crumlich (Irvine/HS) was selected in the ninth-round by the Pittsburgh Pirates on the second day of the Major League First-Year Player Draft.
Crumlich, the Big West Defensive Player of the Year, led UC Irvine with 72 hits, 39 runs scored and 16 doubles. Also pacing the team with a .324 batting average, Crumlich played in all 56 games and had eight steals to sit third on the team. The shortstop posted a .969 fielding percentage and topped UCI with 23 multiple-hit games. He concluded his collegiate career with a .296 average and is fourth in the UCI records with 139 runs scored and tied for fifth with 45 doubles.
Crumlich helped UCI to three NCAA post-season berths and a super regional appearance. He was an NCAA All-Tournament choice in 2011 and a Big West Player of the week. Crumlich was the 2012 Big West Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a four-time scholar-athlete.
