June 29, 2012 | Baseball
Irvine, Calif. --- D.J. Crumlich (Irvine/HS), Jordan Fox (Hacienda Heights/Bishop Amat) and Jimmy Litchfield (La Habra/Sonora HS) were named to the Big West Spring All-Academic team, joining 26 Anteater spring honorees.
Crumlich, the Big West Defensive Player of the Year, graduated with a degree in business economics. The shortstop was an all-conference second-team choice and can be found in the top 10 of several of the UCI records, including sitting fourth in runs scored (139) and walks (97) while posting 45 doubles to rank fifth.
Fox also earned a degree in business economics. The first baseman was an All-Big West honorable mention after leading UCI with 37 RBI and was second with 68 hits. He reached safely in 20 consecutive games to lead the Anteaters and was 56th in the nation in triples with five.
Litchfield topped the Anteaters with 29 appearances while posting a 3-2 record on the mound. The right-hander held a 3.60 ERA and struck out 30 in 45 innings while walking 13. Litchfield made two starts and pitched in two combined shutouts while posting one save. Litchfield is a sophomore at UC Irvine and is working towards a degree in criminology, law and society.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
