
UC Irvine Sends Four to Texas for NCAA West Preliminary Round

IRVINE, Calif. --- Seniors Charles Jock, Jacob Yowell and Dominic Jester, and junior Chris Carson, will represent UC Irvine in the NCAA West Preliminary Round Thursday through Saturday (May 24-26) in Austin, Tex.
Jock, who has the No. 1 800-meter time (1:44.75) in the nation this season, competes in the first round of that event Thursday at 8:10 p.m. (Central Time) at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday at 7:00 p.m. with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA semifinals and final in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9.
A three-time Big West Conference Track Athlete of the Year and two-time All-American, Jock won the Big West 800 title May 12. He was runner-up in the 800 at last year's NCAA Championships.
Jock, Yowell, Carson and Jester are competing in the 4x400 relay quarterfinals Saturday at 9:25 p.m. with the top 12 times moving on to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines. The 'Eater quartet has a best time of 3:09.89 this season and won the program's fourth consecutive Big West title.
Yowell is competing in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles. His top times this season are 13.91 in the 110 hurdles (No. 2 in UCI history) and 51.71 in the 400 hurdles. Yowell won the 110 hurdles at the Big West Championships and finished second in the 400 hurdles.
The first round of the 400 hurdles is 4:30 p.m. Thursday with the quarterfinals Friday at 7:30 p.m. The 110 hurdles first round is 5:00 p.m. Friday and the quarterfinals are at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The top 12 in each event advance to Des Moines for the NCAA Championships.
