NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. --- UC Irvine alum Sean Shahi has qualified for U.S. Open Sectional play following his 67 in local qualifying Wednesday at Newport Beach Country Club.

Shahi's 4-under round earns him a berth in the sectional qualifier June 4 at Lake Merced Golf Club and TPC Harding Park.  The U. S. Open is June 14-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.

Shahi earned All-Big West Conference honors each of his three years with the 'Eaters (2007-09).  He was runner-up at the 2008 Big West Championship.
