USTFCCCA Release on The Bowerman Watch List
IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine standout Charles Jock has been added to The Bowerman Watch List following his performance at the Big West Conference Track & Field Championships last weekend, announced Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Jock, a senior from San Diego (Mission Bay HS), won the Big West 800 meters Saturday in a meet and stadium-record time of 1:44.75, which currently ranks No. 1 in the U.S. this season. That time also ties the Big West Conference record that Jock initially ran last June when he was runner-up at the NCAA Championships.
His time also ranks seventh on the all-time collegiate performers list in the event. He was a member of the American team for the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, last summer.
Next up for Jock this season is the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Tex., May 24-26.
"For Charles to be included on this list with Bill Bowerman's name attached to it is a great honor," UCI head coach Vince O'Boyle said. "Bill is one of the legendary coaches in our sport."
The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation. The award is named in honor of track and field pioneer Bill Bowerman, who served the sport in numerous ways. His leadership in the USTFCCCA's predecessor organization, the National Collegiate Track Coaches Association, and his contributions to NCAA track and field and the running community as a whole are among his many lasting legacies.
