Irvine, Calif. – Once again, UC Irvine baseball player Andrew Thurman has been named this week's ESPN Zone Anaheim Anteater of the Week.
The right-handed sophomore pitcher has done it: he has thrown a no-hitter. Thurman has become only the fifth person in UCI history to accomplish the rare feat, outing 23 straight batters before giving up a walk in the eighth against Long Beach State last Friday. Along with this accomplishment, Thurman has been named the Big West Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, as well as the Collegiate Baseball "Louisville Slugger" National Player of the Week.
To top things off, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has awarded Thurman the title of Co-National Pitcher of the Week, and his stellar performance had College Baseball name him 360 Primetime Pitcher of the Week. Thurman is now 4-2 on the season, and holds an ERA of 3.26.
UCI will face 12th-ranked UCLA on the road tonight at 6:00 p.m. and will host UC Riverside this coming weekend (Apr. 27-29) at Anteater Stadium. Friday's game will start at 6:30 p.m. with the final two series games being held at 1:00 p.m.
