
UC Irvine Battles For Big West Crown

ANTEATERS BATTLE FOR CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP: The Anteaters will compete in the Big West Championships Sunday-Tuesday (Apr. 22-24) at the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo.
The Anteaters are paired with Cal State Fullerton and will tee off between 8:10-8:42 on Sunday. Teams will play 18 holes each day before crowing a team and individual champion.
UC Irvine finished fourth (901) at last year's event. The Anteaters placed third in 2010 (925-306-306-313), the last time the championship was held at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
UCI AT THE BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS: UCI has captured five Big West titles (2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2002). Kim Lorenzana (2008), Selaneé Henderson (2006) and Stella Lee (2002) have claimed the individual title at the conference tournament.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP: Senior Lalita Patipaksiri ranks third in the conference in scoring average with a 75.04 mark. Patipaksiri has three top 5 finishes this year and was named Big West Golfer of the Month for March.
LAST TIME OUT: UCI redshirt freshman Michelle Yang posted a career-best 69 on the final round to lead UCI at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. The Anteaters recoded a final round of 287 which was the second lowest score UCI has posted this season. UCI finished in 14th place with a 54-hole score of 901 (306-308-287).
Yang finished in a tie for 36th with a score of 222 (76-77-69), matching Brenna Carlson and Sarah Beak's career best for the lowest round by an Anteater this season. Michelle Park shot even-par 72 on the final round and ended in a tie for 49th with a score of 225. Ronnie Valerio was tied for 59th at 229 (78-74-77), while Lalita Patipaksiri was tied for 65th with a three-round total of 230 (76-80-74). Junior Sara Banke also recorded a final round of even par and finished in a tie for 68th with a score of 231 (78-81-72).
