PALO ALTO, Calif. --- UCI couldn't get it going early as a rough first quarter was the finishing blow in a 17-5 loss to the Cardinal at Avery Aquatics Center.
Stanford jumped out of the gate with eight first-period goals while also shutting UCI out.
The 'Eaters' Kelsey Klatt (Fresno / Sunnyside HS) finally got UCI on the board a minute into the second quarter. UCI would trail at the half, 12-2.
The play down the stretch was less than competitive as each team added a few more goals to finish the match out at 17-5.
Jessy Cardey (Riverside / Poly HS) was able to extend her scoring streak to 34 games with a goal early in the third period. Hillary Estrada (Coronado / Coronado HS) led the 'Eaters with a pair of goals.
UC Irvine (12-5) returns home for a pair of matches next weekend. San Diego State comes to town Sat. March 10th for a 1:00 p.m. match following by a game with the Colorado State Rams that evening at 7:00 p.m.
