IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine coasted on Sunday to a 5-2 win over the Big West rival Mustangs of Cal Poly Sunday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
UCI (7-4, 2-0) took care of doubles early on with quick 8-1 and 8-3 victories from Nos. 1 and 2.
Singles action also belonged to the 'Eaters winning four of the six matches. Kristina Smith (Laguna Niguel / Dana Hills HS) continued to roll with her second 6-3, 6-0 win of the weekend. Courtney Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep HS) continued her hot play as well, while Stephanie Hammel (Placentia / Valencia HS) got back on the winning track to deliver the fourth and deciding point for UCI.
Ali Facey (Cameron Park / Ponderosa HS) also got in the win column before Cal Poly (6-5, 2-2) took the final two matches on courts three and four in straight sets.
The 'Eaters' streak now stands at four wins in a row. They face a quick turnaround week as they host Furman Wednesday, Mar. 7th at 1:30 p.m. before travelling to Long Beach State for another Big West match, Fri. Mar. 9th at 2:00 p.m.
