Bakersfield Pulls Away Late in 71-64 Victory Over UC Irvine

Irvine, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield out-scored UC Irvine 13-6 in the final three minutes of the game to secure a 71-64 victory at the Bren Events Center Sunday afternoon.

With 3:11 remaining in the game and the score tied at 58-58, CSU Bakersfield's Ciara Ford hit a three-pointer at 2:47 to put the Roadrunners on top for good. Following a UCI free throw by Jennifer Tsurumoto, Bakersfield score seven unanswered to open a 68-59 lead with 56 seconds remaining. UCI would get as close as five (69-62) on a layup by Anete Klintsone with 16 seconds left.

In the first half, CSU Bakersfield used another late push, outscoring the Anteaters 12-2 to take a 35-26 advantage with 1:27 left before halftime. The Roadrunners would hold a 37-30 lead at the break.  

UCI's Camille Buckley recorded her first double-double with a career-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. It is the first double-double for an Anteater player this year. The forward was 7-10 from the floor and 4-6 from the free throw line. She also added two blocks. Junior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto went 5-10 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line to finish with 15 points. She tied her career-high with five assists. Forwards Methlyn Onogomuho and Jasmine Bernard added eight points, while guard Anete Klintsone came off the bench to total seven points.

The Anteaters shot a season-high 50 percent from the floor, but missed eight free throws (16-24) for a 66.7 mark. Bakersfield was 20-57 from the floor (35.1%) and 25-33 from the line (75.8%). The Roadrunners out-rebounded UCI 37-31, including grabbing 18 offensive boards. Bakersfield knocked down six three-pointers to the Anteaters' two. The Roadrunners scored 24 points off of 22 UCI turnovers.

Bakersfield was led by Amber Williams with a game-high 23 points followed by Tyonna Outland who recorded 17 points. Cebrina Johnson had a team-high eight rebounds.

Both teams are 2-7 overall.

UC Irvine will take the week off for finals and resume action traveling to Utah State on Dec. 18.
