UC Irvine Signs A Pair Of Outside Hitters
November 19, 2012 | Men's Volleyball
IRVINE, CALIF. -- UC Irvine head men's volleyball coach David Kniffin announced the signing of Tucker Pikula and Reid Dominguez to National Letters of Intent.
"There is no greater testament to the program, the culture and our tradition than to continue to bring in future players such as Reid and Tucker," Kniffin said. "Aside from the obvious talent, there is a humbleness and blue collar work ethic that emanates from both of them."
Pikula is a 6-1 outside hitter from Mater Dei High School. He earned first team All-Trinity League honors as well as second team all-county accolades. Pikula was a member of the Monarchs 2010 CIF Division I championship team. Pikula was a silver medalist and named to the all-tournament team at the 2012 Junior National Championship for the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club under Coach Steve Astor. He was a gold medalist and MVP of the 2011 Junior National Tournament. He is currently playing for Mike D'Alessandro's 18 Hurley team.
Dominquez is a 6-5 outside hitter from Orange Lutheran High School where he was the team captain and MVP as a junior. He was also tabbed a first-team All-Trinity League honoree last year. Dominquez joins Pikula on Mike D'Alessandro's Balboa Bay 18 Hurley team and was a member of coach Scott Panaro's 18 White team last year.
The duo is Kniffin's first recruiting class. The first year head coach will lead his 2013 team into action in an exhibition match on Jan. 2 versus Concordia at 7:00 p.m. in Crawford Hall. The Anteaters then open the regular season at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational Jan. 4-5 before returning home to host Pepperdine on Jan. 8 and USC on Jan. 11. Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Events Center.
