UCI continues on the road traveling to San Diego State Wednesday (Nov. 14) for a 7:00 p.m. game at Viejas Arena.
The Anteaters host Nevada in the home opener Saturday (Nov. 17) at 4:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.
San Diego State leads the all-time series against UCI, 18-6.
SDSU beat UCI 76-57 in the Bren last year. Malia Nahinu had a career-high 16 points and a personal-best five blocked shots. Kiyana Stamps (15) and Courtney Clements (17) also recorded double-figure points. Chelsea Hopkins dished out a career-high 12 assists. UCI's Cheyenne Cathey tied her career-high with 11 points in 17 minutes of action. She went 3-5 from the floor, including 2-2 in three-pointers.
The last time the two teams met at Viejas Arena (Nov. 23, 2010), UCI claimed a 68-66 victory.
The Aztecs enter the game 0-1 after dropping a 66-52 decision at UCLA in the season opener at Pauley Pavilion last Saturday. Erimma Amarikwa scored 14 points and Chelsea Hopkins added 10 points in the loss.
San Diego State will become a Big West member beginning with the 2013-14 season. The Aztecs were an original member of the Conference, then known as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association, from 1969 to 1978. The Aztecs' women's program was a member of the Conference from 1985 to 1990.
Viejas Arena will be the site of the second and third rounds of the 2014 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
UCI owns a 12-5 advantage over Nevada in the series records. The two teams haven't met since 2007 when the Anteaters topped the Wolf Pack 77-74 on Dec. 7 in the Bren Center. Nevada was a member of the Big West Conference from 1992-2000.
Nevada opened the year with a 76-72 win over Cal State Fullerton at home. The Wolf Pack went 34-44 from the free throw line to help beat the Titans. Terilyn Moe had 20 points, going 13-13 from the line, while Arielle Wideman added 16 points with a 11-15 performance from the charity stripe.
Nevada will play at Pacific Thursday before heading to the Bren.
UCI leads the Big West in defensive rebound percentage (.786), ranks second in rebounding margin (+9.0) and offensive rebounds (19), offensive rebound percentage (.422) and is third in the Big West in rebounding offense (41.0), rebounding defense (32.0).
Jennifer Tsurumoto ranks fifth among Big West players in scoring (17.0), second in three-pointers made (3.0) and seventh in three-point percentage (.600), while Camille Buckley leads the conference in offensive rebounds with seven. She is also fifth in rebounds (9.0), 11th in scoring (14.0) and 12th in free throw percentage (.750).
UCI has lost the last 11 season openers, including a 77-54 defeat Friday at Santa Clara. The Anteaters were held scoreless for six minutes in the first half which helped the Broncos establish a 47-26 lead at the half. UCI held its own the second half only being out-scored 30-28. Junior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto had a team-high 17 points in her Anteater debut. She went 5-11 from the field, hitting three three-pointers. Sophomore forward Camille Buckley totaled 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Anteaters out-rebounded Santa Clara, 41-32.
