UCI, UC Davis Play to 1-1 Draw

Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. --- UCI's 79th minute goal from Zoya Farzaneh evened the match up, and it would end as a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Stadium.

UC Davis (7-6-2, 2-2-1) took the early advantage as Ashley Edwards would strike in the 3rd minute off a Lexi Poppoff cross.

UCI (8-8-1, 4-1-1) had multiple chances from Mar Rodriguez and Natalia Ledezma before Farzaneh got one to count thanks to an assist by Dana Sanderlin.

Rodriguez had another chance as time expired, but her header would sail high and send the match to over time.

Corey Tobin stepped up in the first overtime with her only save of the match. The offense stalled in both overtime periods as the match would end in a 1-1 draw.

Farzaneh's goal was her first of the season giving her four points on the year. She finished 2011 with a pair of postseason goals. Sanderlin recorded her third assist, second most on the squad, along with nine points overall.

UCI comes home from Northern California with a win and a draw to put them at 8-8-1 on the year. It's 4-1-1 record in conference play keeps them in second place overall. The Anteaters run head-on into a huge matchup next Saturday as they travel to Long Beach State for a 7:00 p.m. match.
