SHOCKTOBERFEST 2012 Information
IRVINE, Calif. --- Energy is sure to be high Friday night as the UC Irvine women's and men's basketball teams go on public display, participating in the annual SHOCKTOBERFEST 2012 at the Bren Events Center.
The soldout event for UCI undergraduate students begins at 5:30 p.m. on Mesa Road with a Street Festival featuring food, games, giveaways and live entertainment.
Doors to the Bren Center are scheduled to open at 7:00 p.m. with students able to preview the talents of the 'Eater basketball teams for 2012-13 as part of the annual "Midnight Magic" celebration. There will be team introductions, a three-point shooting contest between the women's and men's teams, plus a dunk contest by the men's squad. There will also be performances by the UCI Spirit Squad and select dance crews.
Following the basketball will be a live concert in the Bren Center featuring performances by Dom Kennedy, Kendrick Lamar and Tyga.
The night will continue with the traditional AfterShock Dance Party with student DJ mixes from Electronic Dance Union.
First-year head coach Doug Oliver's Anteater women's squad hosts Cal State San Marcos (Oct. 30) and Concordia (Nov. 6) in exhibition contests before beginning the regular season at Santa Clara Nov. 9.

Big West Basketball Tournament Goes On Sale with New "Dream Big" Campaign
Anaheim, CA (October 11, 2012) – Honda Center and the Big West Conference have announced that all-session tickets for the 2013 Big West Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament will go on sale this Friday, October 12 in conjunction with the official start of college basketball season. In addition, the first television spot of the tournament's 2013 dream big campaign has been unveiled.
Beginning October 12 at 10 AM, all-session tickets regularly priced at $64.00 will be available for $54.00 through 11:59 PM Thursday, October 18. VIP tickets located in the first four rows of seating and regularly priced at $144.00 will be available for $134.00. Seats can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster retail outlets, or by calling 800-745-3000.
The Big West Tournament's dream bigcampaign seeks to highlight the passion and emotion surrounding college basketball in March. With every second of every game taking on greater significance than the last, players, coaches and fans actually live the moments they've pictured in their wildest imaginations. The drama unfolds in real time and a chosen few, those who dream big, get their moment.
The 2013 Big West Tournament will be the third year the event has been hosted at Honda Center in Anaheim. The 2012 tournament saw a 23% increase in attendance from the previous year, including the largest crowd to witness a final in the event's 18-year tenure in Anaheim. A three-day total of 18,976 fans attended the 2012 event.
The Big West Tournament is the oldest NCAA Division I post-season basketball tournament in the West, dating back to 1976 when the conference was known as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association. The Big West is comprised of ten schools: Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i and Pacific.
