SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- No. 7 UC Irvine wasted little time in the second match of the day scoring early and often en route to a 9-4 win over Indiana in the UCSB Gaucho Invite.

Jessy Cardey (Riverside / Poly HS) led the way with a pair in the first quarter as part of five first-period goals against an Indiana team known for its defense.

Annika Bergesen (West Jordan, Utah / Golden West College) and Danielle Warde (Huntington Beach / Edison HS) added a couple more in the second for a 7-2 lead of their own going into halftime.

Indiana (3-2) managed a couple more strikes, but were unable to mount any sort of comeback as the 'Eaters (1-1) posted their first win of the year.

UCI has another double header Sunday as they will face Sonoma State at 10:10 a.m. and Cal State Northridge at 3:35 p.m. to finish off the UCSB Gaucho Invite.
