Quiksilver Featuring Anteater Alums Sweep UC Irvine, 3-0 At Irvine International Tournament

Irvine, Calif. – Quiksilver, which includes a trio of Anteater alumni, beat UC Irvine, 3-0 at the Irvine International Tournament presented by ST/COMP Quiksilver held at Crawford Court Friday.
Former Anteater stars Paul Spittle, Taylor Wilson and Jon Steller added to the offensive attack of Quiksilver which won its first match (1-4) at the tournament. UCI falls to 1-4 and will face Beijing tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the seventh place match. The Anteaters defeated Beijing 3-1, in the first match of the tournament. Quiksilver will battle Shanghai at 3:00 p.m. for fifth place.

In the first set, the teams remained close until Quiksilver used a kill and a service ace by Steller, a former Anteater All-American, to go ahead 23-22. The teams traded service errors before a UCI attack sailed long to give Quiksilver the 25-23 victory.
A kill by Steller and the third service ace of the set by Brandon Taliaferro put Quicksiver ahead 21-19. A kill by Spittle, the captain of UCI's 2006 NCAA semifinal team, gave Quiksilver game-point 24-22 and following a service error Cody Loe put away the set winner in the middle, 25-23.
Quiksilver jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third set and never relinquished the lead as they took the game, 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Korea (2-2) and Japan (2-2) will play in the third place match at 6:00 p.m. before unbeaten Brazil (4-0) and Argentina (4-0) battle in the championship match at 8:00 p.m.
