Japan Rallies To Beat UC Irvine, 3-2 At The Irvine International Volleyball Tournament

Irvine, Calif. -- The Toray Arrows of Japan rallied from two sets down to defeat UC Irvine 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-13) at the Irvine International Volleyball Tournament presented by ST/COMP Quiksilver at Crawford Court.
UCI scored the last three points of the first set on kills by Connor Hughes and Scott Kevorken and a block by Kevorken and Kevin Carroll to win the game 25-22.
UCI led 22-21 in the second set and scored three of the last four points, including the game-winning kill by Carson Clark, 25-22.
Jeremy Dejno came off the bench to serve with UCI trailing 22-18 and served four straight points, the last a solo block by Austin D'Amore, to give the Anteaters the 23-22 lead. UCI had match point on a Clark kill, 24-23, but Japan scored the last three points to take the third set 26-24.
In the fourth set, UCI led 17-15 before Japan went on a 6-0 run to open a 21-17 lead. The Toray Arrows would go on to win 25-20.
Japan score four unansered points to open a 14-10 cushion and won the fifth and final set 15-13.
The Anteaters will take on Drean Bolivar from Argentina tomorrow (Sept. 28) at 7:00 p.m.
In the first match of the day, Drean Bolivar defeated Beijing BAIC Motor from China, 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22), while the Korean Air Jumbos beat Shanghai Tang Dynasty from China, 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 17-25, 25-18) in the nightcap.
