Rex Nelson Makes it Four Conference Athletes of This Week for UCI

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine redshirt junior Rex Nelson (Newport Harbor HS) has been named the Big West Conference Athlete of the Week in men's cross country.
Nelson finished eighth of 148 runners in last Saturday's Asics/UCI Invitational at the Anteater Recreation Center Course. He had a time of 25:31.5 over 8,000 meters to help UCI to a fourth-place finish in the 13-team field.
UCI is training at Mammoth this week before returning to competition at the Stanford Invitational Sept. 24.
Nelson is the fourth UCI student-athlete to earn conference athlete of the week honors in the last two days as he joins Kristin Winkler (women's volleyball), Enrique Cardenas (men's soccer) and Mitch Wise (men's water polo).
