RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Senior Amanda Hardeman scored 36 seconds into the second overtime, lifting 13th-ranked UC Irvine past San Jose State, 2-1, in the UC Riverside Invitational Friday at UCR Soccer Stadium.
The game-winner from 25 yards out was Hardeman's first career goal at UCI. Hardeman gained possession of the ball and hit a bullet that went off the crossbar and Spartan keeper Meghan Maiwald's back into the goal.
UCI, 3-0 overall, took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute when CoCo Goodson slotted the ball to Natalia Ledezma, who out-maneuvered Maiwald in a one-on-one situation for her second goal of the season.
San Jose State (0-2) tied the game in the 78th minute as Catherine Ruder scored off a pass from Sarah Fraser on a give-and-go.
UCI freshman keeper Jennifer Randazzo, the reigning Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, recorded four saves.
