COLLEGE STATION, Tex. --- The No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies (1-1-0) peppered the net all afternoon, but the No. 17 'Eater (2-0-0) backline held firm in a 1-0 upset victory over the reigning Big 12 Champions.

Freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Randazzo (San Jose / Presentation HS) had a stellar day in net in front of 1,574 fans at Ellis Field and 100 degree weather. She saved seven shots and withstood a 21-shot barrage by the Aggies. Preseason All-American CoCo Goodson (Ramona / University of Texas) was flying all over the defensive third of the field to slow the Texas A&M attack.

The Anteater offense arrived early scoring the game's only goal in the eighth minute thanks to senior Lexi Kopf (Sonora / Sonora HS). Dana Sanderlin (Upland / Upland HS) provided the assist.

The play stayed fairly balanced through the rest of the half. As the second half began, the 'Eaters offense woke up, but Texas A&M would counter shortly after. Randazzo was sprawled all over the goal making a few diving saves and even one off a point-blank deflection.

The Aggies had a pair of prime opportunities in the second half. Freshman Bianca Brinson had a breakaway shot saved by Randazzo. Minutes later, an Aggie corner kick curved right into the box and was headed off the crossbar. The Aggie attack continued throughout the game down to the final seconds as a long free kick was blasted right on Randazzo as time expired.

Texas A&M controlled the match with an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks, and a 21-5 advantage in shots.

The No. 11 Aggies are the highest-ranked road victory for the 'Eaters. Overall, it's the second-highest ranked opponent UCI has defeated. In 1995, the Anteaters defeated tenth-ranked Hartford, 1-0. The 'Eaters would finish that season ranked No. 22, the only other time they were ranked in school history before last season.

Their next challenge will come in Riverside, Calif. in the UC Riverside Tournament. UCI plays at 4:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 against San Jose State followed by a 10:00 a.m. match, Sunday, Aug. 28 against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
