USA Tops Hungary, 8-7, at World University Games

SHENZHEN, China --- Team USA, led by UC Irvine head coach Marc Hunt, defeated Hungary, 8-7, in a medal-round game of the World  University Games Wednesday.

With the victory, the Americans move on to face Spain in a quarterfinal game Friday in Shenzhen, China.

The U.S. capitalized in Wednesday's win by outscoring Hungary, 4-1, in the third quarter.

UCI alum Griffin Lerman started and played over 27 minutes, recording an assist, steal and blocked shot.  Another 'Eater alum, Greg Enloe, played nearly seven minutes.

Hunt, who will be in his seventh season as UCI's head coach this fall, is a two-time Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Coach of the Year (2007, 2009).  He has led UCI to a top-five national ranking in four of his six seasons, including last fall when the `Eaters were fifth in the final national poll after finishing with an 18-8 overall record.  UCI had five All-Americans on its team last season.

Hunt won gold as captain of the U.S. team at the 1993 World University Games in Buffalo, N.Y.
