IRVINE, Calif. --- The UCI women's soccer team got off to a good start with a 2-0 victory over Fresno State in an exhibition match at Anteater Stadium.
Transfer Natalia Ledezma (La Mirada / UCLA) made a quick impact with her new school scoring both goals for the 'Eaters.
The first goal came off a cross from Judy Christopher (Ontario / Upland HS) that Ledezma would touch past the keeper into the far corner of the net just a few minutes into the second half. Her second came off a cross from Jordan Utvich (Valencia / West Ranch HS) from the sideline into the box where Dana Sanderlin (Upland / Upland HS) would deflect it to Ledezma who would proceed to punch it in with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Each team played a tough, scoreless first half with Kala Gabler (Apple Valley / Hope International) holding down the net. Her replacement, Jennifer Randazzo (San Jose / Presentation HS), played very well in the second half. She recorded the only save for the 'Eaters, but also making a few excellent plays on balls near the net.
The 'Eaters outshot the Bulldogs 12-5 in the second half and 17-7 overall. Riley Fielder and Katie Devault split time in the Bulldogs net with Devault recording all four saves and allowing both goals.
The tune-up helped UCI as the Anteaters prepare for their season-opener next Friday, Aug. 19 against UT-San Antonio as part of the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.
