2011 Big West Cross Country Championship Information
IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine journeys to UC Riverside Saturday (Oct. 29) to compete in the 2011 Big West Conference Championship.
The men's 8,000-meter race is scheduled to start at 8:45 a.m. at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course.
Vince O'Boyle, in his 30th season as UCI's head coach, has entered the following nine runners:
Brennen Halliday (Sr., Lake Arrowhead / Big Bear HS)
Brett Matejka (Sr., La Crescenta / Crescenta Valley HS)
Ryan McMonigle (Sr., San Diego Mesa College / Patrick Henry HS)
Steven Melena (So., Lancaster / Eastside HS)
Matt Neev (Fr., Laguna Beach / Laguna Beach HS)
Rex Nelson (RSJr., Costa Mesa / Newport Harbor HS)
Tommy Newton-Neal (So., Laguna Beach / Laguna Beach HS)
Nick Osborne (Jr., Apple Valley / Victor Valley Christian HS)
Andrew Snyder (RSSo., Thousand Oaks / Thousand Oaks HS)
Matejka finished 17th at last year's league meet and Melena was 24th as UCI placed sixth in the team results. Snyder was 47th and McMonigle 57th.
Nelson did not compete last year due to injury, but he finished 28th at the 2009 conference championship.
DIRECTIONS TO THE UCR AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS COURSE (From Orange County): Take the 91 Freeway east to the 60/215 Freeway (to Indio) South. Take the University Avenue exit and turn right (west) onto University Avenue. Proceed to Iowa Street and turn left (south). Continue to Martin Luther King Street and turn left (east) onto Martin Luther King. Proceed to Canyon Crest Drive and turn right (south). Take Canyon Crest Drive one-half mile to the Agricultural Operations gate.
The course is located one-half mile south of the UC Riverside campus. Event parking for spectators will be in Lot 30, on the northwest corner of Canyon Crest and Martin Luther King (once on MLK, Lot 30 is on your left prior to Canyon Crest). Admission to the 2011 Big West Cross Country Championships is $5 per person.
