Anteaters Announce 2012 Schedule

IRVINE, Calif. --- Head coach Mike Gillespie's 2012 Anteaters will make a pair of trips to the Lone Star State and will play one game at Dodger Stadium, highlighting the non-conference portion of the schedule.
Following the annual Alumni Game on Feb. 4, UC Irvine opens the 2012 campaign at the RBI Tournament which will be played at Minute Maid Park and the RBI facility in Houston, Tex., Feb. 17-19.
The team opens the home slate against UNLV Monday (Feb. 20) and hosts the Washington Huskies in its first home weekend series (Feb. 24-26).
The Anteaters then compete in a tournament hosted by Baylor in Waco, Texas, Mar. 2-4 and will face both Baylor and Lamar twice.
UCI returns home to host BYU in a three-game series beginning Thursday (Mar. 8-10) and then takes on Pepperdine at Dodger Stadium (Mar. 13) as part of the Dodgertown Classic hosted by USC.
Following a single game against Washington State (Mar. 14), the team travels to Nevada (Mar. 16-18) for a three-game set. The Anteaters then return home for a six-game homestand against Dartmouth (Mar. 22-24) and Pacific (Mar. 30-Apr. 1) to open Big West Conference action.
The team then travels to Cal Poly in a Thursday through Saturday series (Apr. 5-7) before returning to face Cal State Fullerton (Apr. 13-15). UCI continues action at home in a mid-week contest against San Diego State before hitting the road again for the Black and Blue Rivalry series against Long Beach State at Blair Field (Apr. 20-22).
The first game of a home-and-home series against UCLA is scheduled for Apr. 24 and conference action continues that week against UC Riverside (Apr. 27-29). Following a return trip to the Aztecs at San Diego State (May 1), the Anteaters will entertain UC Santa Barbara (May 4-6).
UCI hits the road for four straight games against San Diego (May 8) and Cal State Northridge (May 11-13) before playing five straight home contests against the Toreros (May 15), Cal State Bakersfield (May 18-20) and UCLA (May 22).
The Anteaters wrap up the regular season against the Aggies at UC Davis (May 25-27).
UCI, under head coach Mike Gillespie, was 43-18 last season and made its fourth-consecutive NCAA post-season appearance under the Hall of Fame skipper in 2011. The Anteaters have advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven of its 10 seasons since re-instating baseball in 2002.
