CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Sophomore Tommy Newton-Neal led UC Irvine in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on the Pomona College course Saturday morning.
Newton-Neal placed 12th of 180 runners with a time of 25:49.3 over 8,000 meters. UCI teammate Brett Matejka was 19th in 25:58.6.
The Anteaters' Amir Shirif finished 28th (26:34.0), Alan Callison III was 72nd (27:07.1) and Trevor Smith 84th (27:19.9).
UCI placed seventh in the 13-team meet with 167 points. Cal State San Marcos was team champion with 38 points.
