UC Irvine Places Ninth at Bill Dellinger Invitational

 

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. --- UC Irvine senior Melissa Mead led the Anteaters at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Ore., Saturday.

Mead placed 40th in 17:49.05 over the 5,000-meter course at the Springfield Country Club.

Freshman Kaycee Holcomb placed 54th in 18:06.73, while juniors Maggie Newton-Neal (18:19.85) and Chloe Fata (18:29.33) were 65th and 72nd, respectively.

Senior Maggie McDuffee finished 82nd in 18:59.35, freshman Marthie Ponty was 85th in 19:05.13 and junior Shelley Foerster 94th in 19:34.30.

Idaho's Hannah Kiser won the race with a time of 16:45.71.

Host Oregon won the meet with 26 points, Wisconsin was second with 73 and Portland third with 95.  UCI totaled 266 points for ninth place.

The Anteaters travel to La Jolla for the UCSD Triton Classic next Saturday.
