Persis William-Mensah, a 2016 Olympian, joined the UC Irvine track & field staff as a volunteer assistant in 2018, shortly after concluding a remarkable four-year career with the Anteaters.
 
While still a student-athlete at UCI, William-Mensah had the opportunity to represent her native country of Ghana in the 4x100 relay at both the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London. More recently, she ran the third leg of the 4x100 that finished seventh at the 2019 IAAF World Relay Championships in Japan.
 
William-Mensah, who graduated in 2018, left UC Irvine as the top sprinter in program history. She established outdoor school records in the 100m (11.48), 200m (23.56) and 4x100 relay (44.51), and also set the Anteaters’ top indoor marks in the 60m (7.38) and 200m (24.26).
 
William-Mensah was a three-time NCAA West Preliminary qualifier in the 100m, while she also advanced to the regional meet in the 200m and 4x100 relay as a senior. She earned All-Big West honors six times in her career, winning a conference title in the 100m (2018) and 4x100 (2016).
 
William-Mensah earned her bachelor’s degree in public health sciences.
