With Homecoming on Saturday, former student-athletes recall some of their favorite UCI memories
Glenn Swanson, Baseball, Class of 2006
“Though there were many great memories, the one that stands out most would have to be from 2006--on the day of my no-hitter. I can recall that day so clearly and I play it back frequently when I'm feeling nostalgic. My parents being there made it even more special. Everyone and everything came together in a way that is only rivaled by my wedding day.”
Alyssa Humphrey, Women’s Soccer, Class of 2010
“I would have to say most of my fondest memories come from being involved in athletics. One specifically that is my favorite is being part of the women’s soccer team who made their first appearance in post season play and went to the Sweet 16. In addition, to being the only team in Big West Conference History to go 8-0-0 (unbeaten and untied).”
“Another great memory was taking a road trip out to Provo, Utah to watch the men’s volleyball team beat USC to win a National Championship in 2009.”
Danielle de Seriere, Women’s Soccer, Class of 2010
“Road tripping to Provo, Utah to watch the men’s volleyball team beat USC in the National Championship and the 2010 Fall Season for the women’s soccer team. Those were both pretty epic!”
Mike Wilder, Men’s Basketball, Class of 2013
“All of our road trips were pretty memorable, but my first ever, and last two road trips stand out the most. The first one was at Texas, and it was the first time I had ever been immersed in a true college basketball environment. The second to last was at Texas Arlington, and I scored my 1000th point in that game, and we celebrated the win by seeing a monster truck rally at Cowboy Stadium, which was a lot more fun that it looked on TV. The last road trip was to play Oral Roberts, and we were able to practice at the Oklahoma City Thunder practice facility and watch a game and meet a few players afterward. Even though my career ended that road trip, it was a great way to spend some quality time with the team.”
“Outside of basketball, I think my favorite memory was living in the dorms freshmen year. To be surrounded by hundreds of other people who were similar in age, going through the same experiences as you were, it was easy to meet and connect with everyone. I loved being social, so I was able to make a ton of lifelong friends, and there was never another living situation that has compared.”
Jazmyne White, Women’s Basketball, Class of 2014
“One of my favorite memories would be when I was awarded freshmen of the year because it was a great way to end the first year of my basketball career.”
Camille Buckley, Women’s Basketball, Class of 2014
“Undies runs and beating UC Davis for the third time in the Big West tournament taking us to the semi-finals at the Honda Center.”
Chris McNealy, Men’s Basketball, Class of 2014
“Winning the Big West regular season title against UC Davis my senior year and cutting down the nets in the Bren.”
Connor Spencer, Baseball, Class of 2014
“My favorite college memory is dog-piling at Oregon State in front of all their home fans on our way to Omaha in 2014.”
