· UC Irvine's 2025 season began with a six-match home stretch that finished 5-0-1 for the 'Eaters:
+Â First up last week was preseason No. 22 Cornell on Monday with the Anteaters winning, 1-0. A second-half goal by
Zac Smuck, his first career point, was enough to seal the win
+Â The week and homestand concluded Friday vs. Yale with the 'Eaters winning again, 1-0.
Gustavo Gonzalez netted his first career goal tapping one home in the 13th minute
· Both goals last week were put home by freshmen, the first goal and game-winner for each. Freshmen have accounted for 1,199 minutes collecting 13 starts, two goals, and five points among five 'Eaters

Hunny Yoo continues his giving ways with primary assist on each goal this week. He has three assist to lead the team, all in the last four matches, and all primary assists on game-winners
· Anteater wing backs secured secondary assists on last week's goals with
Travis Babineau getting it Monday and
Brady Treinen collecting the ninth of his career Friday off a set piece

Joe O'Shaughnessy and his defense have been the catalyst to the strong start. UCI has allowed one goal in six matches for a team GAA of 0.17 (0.19 for O'Shaughnessy), with Anteater keepers stopping 14 shots, 93.3% of all shots on goal
· UC Irvine entered the national rankings at No. 22 last week and moved up to No. 20 Tuesday. It's the first time ranked since the 2019 preseason poll had UCI at No. 25. The 'Eaters have slowly added votes each week going from zero in the preseason to five, 11, 24, and now 38 in the most recent rankings. They'll be going up against another ranked team Wednesday, No. 23 San Diego.
And The Award Goes To...
· Two more Big West awards were handed out last week to the Anteaters, a pair of first-timers:
Joe O'Shaughnessy for Defensive Player of the Week and
Gustavo Gonzalez for Freshman of the Week. O'Shaughnessy pitched two shutouts giving him four this year and the team five. His goals-against-average is down to 0.19 allowing one goal on the season, and he matched his season high of four saves in the win vs. Cornell. Gonzalez netted his first career goal, a game-winner, to beat Yale while handling backline duties in the shutouts. UCI has four awards in total adding Big West Offensive Player of the Weeks to

Wednesday vs. the Toreros
· San Diego has experienced similar success through the early going at 4-1-2 unbeaten in their last six. The wins included over No. 21 Denver, UC Santa Barbara, and CBU along with a draw at No. 20 Furman. The lone loss was at No. 15 Duke. USD is coming off a 15-win season in 2024 reaching the NCAA Third Round where eventual champion Vermont knocked them off.
· UCI and USD have met 32 times prior including a 1-0 Torero win at UCI last year. USD has 20 wins in the series to UCI's eight and four draws. The 'Eaters under coach Raz have a 1-2-1 mark.
· The Toreros began the year ranked 10th before falling out of the rankings briefly and resurfacing at No. 25 last week. The Toreros put over more than two goals a match with four goal scorers putting home multiples led by Iain Wagner's three. Last year's goal scorer Oliver Rhoades returns, so far leading the squad with three assists. Lucca Adams has played the last two matches in net and is unbeaten despite one save on three shots on target.
