IRVINE, Calif. -- On May 2, 2025, UC Irvine celebrated the naming of the track for legendary track and cross country coach Vince O'Boyle.
A generous group of 75 donors contributed to the naming in of honor of O'Boyle who coached at UCI from 1982-2013. Along with these gifts, a $150,000 endowment for the program was established to provide ongoing support for cross country/track student-athletes.
A large crowd of former athletes, fellow coaches, family and friends gathered to share stories and recognize O'Boyle.
On the track, O'Boyle coached 18 All-Americans, including Charles Jock, the 2012 NCAA individual champion in the 800m and 2016 Olympian. Overall, he was a 20-time Big West Coach of the Year, mentoring 27 All-Americans and 23 Big West Athletes of the Year.
O'Boyle was inducted into the UCI Hall of Fame in 2020.
