LAS VEGAS, Nevada – UC Irvine is tied for fifth place after day one of the Big West Championships held at the Spanish Trail Country Club.

The Anteaters shot a first round of 303, matching UC Riverside and trail leader Cal State Fullerton who fired a 291 Sunday.

UCI is led by freshman HaYoung Lee with a two-over par 74. She carded four birdies over the first 18 holes, which is tied for fourth most among the field.

Freshman Katelyn Kong is tied for 13^th with a score of 75 followed by freshman Katherine Gerbing who is tied for 19^th at 76. Sophomore Alyson Sor was tied for the tournament lead in pars with 14 and stands tied for 28^th with a score of 78. Freshman Alona Avery is tied for 38^th at 81.

Gerbing was tied for fourth in Par 3 scoring (3.00) and sixth in pars with 13.

The Anteaters will play with CSUN and UC Riverside tomorrow with Avery off the tee first at 9:20 a.m.
