UC Irvine Starts Big West Championships

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – UC Irvine is tied for fifth place after day one of the Big West Championships held at the Spanish Trail Country Club.

The Anteaters shot a first round of 303, matching UC Riverside and trail leader Cal State Fullerton who fired a 291 Sunday.

UCI is led by freshman HaYoung Lee with a two-over par 74. She carded four birdies over the first 18 holes, which is tied for fourth most among the field.

Freshman Katelyn Kong is tied for 13th with a score of 75 followed by freshman Katherine Gerbing who is tied for 19th at 76. Sophomore Alyson Sor was tied for the tournament lead in pars with 14 and stands tied for 28th with a score of 78. Freshman Alona Avery is tied for 38th at 81.

Gerbing was tied for fourth in Par 3 scoring (3.00) and sixth in pars with 13.

The Anteaters will play with CSUN and UC Riverside tomorrow with Avery off the tee first at 9:20 a.m.
