UC Irvine In The Hunt At USF Invitational

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Freshman Alona Avery leads UC Irvine to second place after the first day at the USF Invitational at the Olympic Club Lake Course.

The Anteaters, who had three players in the Top 10, posted two rounds of 294 and 296 to sit in second place with a score of 590, one stroke behind tournament leader Nevada (589). UCI leads the tournament field on Par 5s (-7) and tied in birdies with 21.

Avery is fourth just two shots off the lead with a score of 144 (73-71). She tops the field with eight birdies.

Katherine Gerbing is tied for seventh with a two-round score of 146 (71-75), while sophomore Alyson Sor is tied for 10th at 148 (72-76). Katelyn Kong is tied for 29th with a score of 152 (78-74) and Kiana Briggs is 46th at 158 (80-78).

HaYoung Lee had a great day, playing as an individual and is in third place with a score of 143 (73-70). She carded seven birdies and Jasmine Chen is tied for 21st at 151 (73-78). Both individuals loved the Par 4s with Lee leading all players (+1) and Chen following (+2).

The tournament concludes tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
