SAN JACINTO, Calif. – UC Irvine holds a four-shot lead after the first round of the UCR Soboba Classic Friday on the strength of all five players being in the top 8 Friday.

The Anteaters shot a one-under par 287 at the Soboba Golf Course, four shots ahead of second place CSUN. The 287 is tied for 11^th best score in program history.

Freshman Katelyn Kong and sophomore Alyson Sor are tied for second with a one-under par 71, while junior Jasmine Chen fired an even par 72. Freshmen Alona Avery and Katherine Gerbing are tied for eighth with a score of 73. Charlotte Ryoo is playing as an individual and is tied for 23rd with a score of 77.

UCI led the tournament field in Pars with 58 and birdies with 18. Sor carded six birdies over the first 18 holes which is tied for the most among tournament participants followed by Chen and Gerbing with four each. Kong had a tournament-best 15 pars.

The tournament continues with 18 holes Saturday and Sunday.
