IRVINE, Calif.— UC Irvine heads on their first road trip of the season, heading to UC Riverside on Thursday (Feb. 20) before going up to Occidental on Saturday (Feb. 22).

- UC Irvine secured their first win of the season in a 7-0 shutout of Monmouth (Feb. 16) before dropping a tight 4-3 contest to UC Davis (Feb. 16) in the Big West opener

- UCI (1-3) got out to a hot start in doubles as Carolyna Fowler and Yen Nhi Huynh teamed up for a 6-0 victory over Ximena Cano/Lauren Landstrom at No. 2
- Nour Khayat and Amanda Perez clinched the doubles point for the Anteaters with their 6-0 victory at No. 1
- Y. Huynh quickly gave UC Irvine a 2-0 advantage after taking down Becky Fisher, 6-0, 6-2, at the sixth position
- Fowler then closed out a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Landstrom at No. 3, before Kayla Meraz delivered the match-clinching point on court one (6-0, 6-0)
- Freshman Maily Huynh earned her first collegiate win in her first appearance in a dual match singles lineup with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5
- Versus UC Davis…
- Despite the doubles point already clinched by the Aggies, Carolyna Fowler and Yen Nhi Huynh teamed up for the 'Eaters in the final match to take down Polina Marakhtanova/Solia Valentine 7-5
- Haily Huynh then earned the first point for the Anteaters with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Kaia Wolfe at No. 4
- UCD secured a 3-1 lead when Mika Ikemori held off Amanda Perez, 6-3, 7-5, at the top of the lineup
- Kayla Meraz bounced back from a first-set loss to upend Solia Valentine 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, at the second position before Yen Nhi Huynh outlasted Daisy Maunupau 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2), at No. 6 to bring the teams even at 3-all
- The match came down to court five where Maily Huynh came up just short in a seesaw battle with Penelope Wong 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6)
- It is the second straight season where UC Davis has come out on top of UC Irvine in a 4-3 battle
- UC Irvine has won seven-straight against UC Riverside, the last a 4-0 sweep at the Big West Championship in April, to lead the all-time series 28-2
- Saturday will be the first all-time meeting between the Anteaters and Occidental
Scouting UC Riverside
UC Riverside faces two Big West opponents in Cal Poly (Feb. 19) before taking on the Anteaters on Thursday the 20th. The Highlanders are 2-4 on the year, collecting their wins over CUI (4-3) and Hope International (7-0), and are on a two-match win streak.

Ramey Yu paces all Highlanders with four singles wins, 4-1 in individual action overall. Yu has won two matches at No. 1 and No. 2 each. Six different UCR players have two doubles wins apiece, led by Sam Condevillamar's 2-0 record at No. 3.

Scouting Occidental
The Tigers own a 1-0-1 overall record and just recently competed in an exhibition match with Brandeis on Tuesday afternoon before hosting the Anteaters. Occidental's win came against Hope International in a 7-0 sweep to open the season.

Elina Shalaev enters the dual match season as an ITA West Regional champion. Shalaev won five matches in a three-day span to claim the title. Â
