WOLCOTT, Colo. – UC Irvine is tied for fourth place after the first round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic Monday.
The Anteaters shot a 289 on the Red Sky Golf Club Fazio course, sitting eight strokes behind leader Sacramento State (281). The 289-team score is tied for 16
th best in program history. UCI ranked second among the tournament field on Par 3s (-1).
Freshman
Alona Avery went low once again, firing a round of 69, which is tied for fourth individually. She recorded four birdies on the day, two on the front nine and two on the back. Avery has been under Par in three of her first four collegiate rounds.

Katelyn Kong is tied for 10
th with a score of 70. She had five birdies overall, catching fire with birdies on 2 thru 4 as well as hole 6.

Katherine Gerbing is tied for 34
th place with a two-over 74, while junior
Jasmine Chen is tied for 55
th with a 76. Chen is one of five players to card an eagle, recording a three on the Par 5 second hole. Freshman
Apple Zheng made her Anteater debut with a score of 79 which is tied for 73
rd.
The tournament continues tomorrow and Wednesday with 18 holes each day.
