Anteaters Host CSUN Before Trip To New Jersey

IRVINE, Calif.— UC Irvine starts with week with a home match against CSUN (Mar. 24) before traveling to New Jersey for matches against Fairleigh Dickinson (Mar. 27) and Seton Hall (Mar. 28).

  • UC Irvine enters into the week with a 4-10 overall record and 1-3 in Big West play
  • The Anteaters last played on Mar. 15 where they fell to Dartmouth at home, 6-1
  • Versus Dartmouth…
    • The Anteaters went down 1-0 in doubles before bringing it to 1-1 with a 6-4 win from Carolyna Fowler and Asha Gidwani on court two
    • Graduate student Jenna Schlatter and sophomore Larissa Teramura paired up for the No. 3 doubles match and emerged with a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point
    • C. Fowler was the fifth to finish her match of the day, winning the first singles set for the Anteaters and force a deciding third game
  • UC Irvine leads the all-time series over CSUN, 18-8
  • UCI has not met with either FDU or Seton Hall in program history

Scouting CSUN
CSUN enters the weekend with a 6-1 record, 2-0 in the Big West, and host Washington State prior to their arrival in Irvine. The Matadors had a break in their dual match action with their last contest played on Mar. 9.

Sophomore Emma Moratalla Sanz holds a perfect 6-0 in singles action in dual matches. All six of the victories have come at the No, 4 spot. Next, redshirt junior Yuliia Zhytelna is 5-1 at No. 2 singles and is on a two-game win streak.

CSUN has utilized the same three doubles partners this season for an overall 14-2 (0.875) record. The Matadors have earned five wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
 
Scouting FDU
Fairleigh Dickinson is 8-5 on the year and 3-0 in the NEC, but recently dropped a closely contested match to Lewis (L, 4-3). The Knights will face St. Thomas Aquinas before taking on the Anteaters.

Valentina Silva is the lone Knight to have double digit wins in singles play with a 10-3 record and a winner of her last three matches. Four of Silva's wins have come from No. 4 and the remaining six at No. 5.
 
Silva teams up with Katsiaryna Kostsina at the No. 3 position in doubles action where they keep a perfect 4-0 record.
 
Scouting Seton Hall
Seton Hall has an action packed next few days with a trip to Rhode Island for matches with Bryant and Providence before heading back to South Orange to meet the Anteaters. The Pirates are 6-6 overall and 0-2 in Big East action.

Aina Plana Ventosa paces Seton Hall in individual action with a perfect 9-0 record in dual matches, earning four of them at the No. 3 position and the remaining five at No. 4. Two Pirates have six individual wins each.
 
Imogen Brooker and Niamh Campbell are 7-5 overall in doubles play. The duo are 1-2 at the No. 2 spot but hold a strong 6-3 record at No. 3.
