IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine men's volleyball reveals another signature schedule in 2025.
"As usual, we have committed to one of the toughest schedules in the country," head coach
David Kniffin said. "I expect some great matches in The Bren Events Center and our road schedule is designed to galvanize this team. I believe we have high potential in terms of mental resilience, problem-solving ability, and volleyball skill. I've enjoyed our test matches so far this fall."
The Anteaters will start the 2025 campaign at The UC Santa Barbara Invitational, where they will meet MPSF's Menlo, and Independents Tusculum and Missouri S&T. While the format of this tournament has changed over the years, this has been an historically strong opening competition for UC Irvine, winning the tournament in 2003, 2007, 2012 and 2013 and capturing NCAA Championships in three of those four seasons.
The Bren Events Center will welcome iconic opponents BYU on Jan. 22 and 24, USC on Feb. 12, UCLA on Feb. 19 and Long Beach State on Mar. 29.
In other non-conference action, UCI will also entertain Pepperdine (Mar. 7) and Sacred Heart (Mar. 8) at home and make trips to UCLA, USC, Stanford, Concordia and George Mason where the Anteaters will face the Patriots as well as Daemon.
UC Irvine will begin the Big West schedule with two matches at the University of Hawaii where the season will conclude at The Hawaiian Islands presents the 2025 Outrigger Big West Men's Volleyball Championship (April 24-26) at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.Â
The Anteaters will host UC San Diego (Apr. 5), UC Santa Barbara (Apr. 12) and CSUN (Apr. 17) at the Bren Center in Big West matches.
"The greatest skill in volleyball is reliability and we lost some highly tested student-athletes. But, as we close out our fall training, and I see our projected starters gaining confidence with increased competence. I see wonderful upside from our first year and young guys and I expect us to keep improving throughout the year, as we usually do," Kniffin noted. "Our competitive objectives remain the same – maintain relevancy in the top-5 nationally, advance through the Big West Tournament, and win The NCAA Championship. It's a narrow path. But I see the path. And I'm really looking forward to the striving with this group of young men."
