The Anteater men are coming off an 11th-straight winning season and sixth Big West regular-season title; all under head coach Russell Turner, the program's winningest coach, as he enters his 14th season at UC Irvine. The program went 23-12 for its eighth 20-win season under Turner, made its seventh NIT appearance, won the Las Vegas Holiday Classic, and defeated No. 21 ranked Oregon on the road.

The UCI women made history in 2022-23, winning the program's first Big West regular-season title, earning their first postseason victory and setting school records in both overall (25) and conference (16) wins. The 'Eaters earned their second consecutive automatic bid to the WNIT and defeated San Diego State in the first round. They closed out the campaign with their third 20-win season in the last five years and were ranked seventh in the nation in scoring defense with a program-best 53.2 points allowed per game.
