IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's tennis has been recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team for the seventh-straight year, while five Anteaters were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

UCI, which claimed a share of the 2023 Big West regular-season title, was one of 162 Division I men's tennis programs to receive All-Academic Team distinction. To be eligible, all student-athletes must combine for a minimum 3.20 team grade-point average for the 2022-23 academic year.

Individually,
Matthew Sah garnered his fourth career ITA Scholar-Athlete award. He was also a 2023 Academic All-District selection and was named to the Big West All-Academic Team for the third year in a row. Sah recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science.

Enrique Luque Rico received ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the second time in his career. Luque Rico was a first-team All-Big West selection in singles, finishing the dual-match campaign with 10 victories and an 8-3 mark at the top of the lineup.

Ali Amiri,
Brandon Park and
Thomas Smart were also first-time honorees. Amiri went 13-10 overall in singles with nine of his wins coming in dual matches. He is majoring in biological sciences.

Park earned first-team All-Big West honors in doubles and was a second-team selection in singles. He paired up with
Noah Zamora to go 12-4 at No. 1 doubles, while closing out the 2022-23 campaign with a 16-7 overall (10-5 dual) singles record. Park is majoring in international studies.

Smart had a breakout season, going a career-best 17-9 in singles. His 14 dual-match victories were tops on the squad. Smart recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics.

To be eligible for the ITA Scholar-Athlete award, student-athletes must have carried a minimum 3.50 GPA for the 2022-23 academic year.
