UCI Returns To Big West Action With Two Matches

IRVINE, Calif.— The Anteaters return to conference action with a match at UC Riverside on Apr. 6 before hosting UC San Diego on Apr. 8.

  • UC Irvine took care of business in New York, coming away with the 5-2 win at Hofstra and clinch-clinch 4-0 victory at Stony Brook
  • Asha Gidwani went 4-0 over the two matches with 2-0 in both singles and doubles play
  • Gidwani leads the 'Eaters in singles play with a 9-2 overall record, 7-1 at the third spot and 2-1 at No. 2
  • Carolyna Fowler earned her third and fourth consecutive wins in singles play, defeating Hofstra's Brooklyn Samuels 6-1, 6-0 and Stony Brook's Debby Mastrodima 6-1, 6-3
  • Amanda Perez holds a 5-1 record at the No. 5 position, 6-2 overall with her singles match against the Seawolves going unfinished
  • The duo of Gidwani/Perez are on a five-match win streak in doubles action, earning two wins at the No. 3 position. The freshmen hold a 8-2 overall record and are 7-2 at the third spot
  • UCI holds the all-time advantage over UC Riverside, 23-2
  • The Anteaters defeated the Highlanders 4-3 in Feb. 2022 and are on a two-match win streak
  • UC Irvine leads the all-time series over UC San Diego, 2-1
UC Riverside
UC Riverside comes into the dual match with a 2-9 overall record, 0-4 in Big West play. The Highlanders have earned wins over Hope International (0-4) and Westmont (6-1). UCR has not played a match since March 17th when they fell to Fordham, 4-1.

Sydney Tran is 4-4 in singles competition, winning one match at No. 5 and is 3-4 at No. 6. The duo of Kamya Nair and Serina Saltzen hold a combined 3-2 record in doubles action.
 
UC San Diego
UC San Diego holds a 7-11 record so far in the 2023 campaign and are 1-5 in conference action. The Tritons conference victory came against UC Davis (5-2) on Feb. 18. UCSD will host Santa Clara on Friday April 7th before making the trip to Irvine.

Katelyn Vu holds a 9-8 record in singles action and is 4-2 in Big West matches. Vu and Rachel Wagner lead the Tritons in doubles play, going 8-2 at the No. 3 position. Naomi Nguyen and Sophie Pearson are 3-0 at the third spot as well.
