UC Irvine Opens NIT Play At No. 1 Seeded Oregon

IRVINE, Calif. -- UC Irvine will play at No. 1 seeded Oregon in a first-round game of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) Wednesday night in Eugene, Ore.

The game will start at 8:00 p.m. (PT) from Matthew Knight Arena and will be televised on ESPN2.  This will be the second meeting this season between UCI and Oregon.

The winner of Wednesday's game will move on to face the winner of the No. 4 seeded Florida-UCF game.

13th-year head coach Russell Turner's UCI squad is 23-11 overall and won the Big West Conference regular-season title with a 15-5 mark. The 23 wins marks the 13th 20-win season in program history and eighth under the helm of Turner.

Oregon, 19-14 overall, is a No. 1 seed in the NIT and is coached by Dana Altman in his 13th season with the Ducks. UO was 12-8 in the Pac-12 and fell to No. 2 seeded UCLA in the semifinals after defeating Washington State 75-70.

The Ducks are 13-5 at home this season, including a win over Big West foe UC Riverside.

This is UCI's first postseason appearance since the 2019 season and the Anteaters' seventh appearance in the NIT (the first in six years).

UCI previously competed in the NIT in 1982, 1986, 2001, 2002, 2014, and 2017.
