FIRST SERVE
UC Irvine remains on the road, making a quick trip across the county to Cal State Fullerton Tuesday (Oct. 3) for a 6:00 p.m. match at Titan Gym before traveling to the farthest Big West opponent, Hawaii, on Saturday (Oct. 7) for a 10:00 p.m. PT first serve from SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
 
The Anteaters are 1-3 on the road this season.

STORYLINES
The Anteaters have dropped the last three matches and are 3-12 overall and 1-3 in the Big West.
 
UCI is 0-4 in five set matches in 2023.
 
The Anteaters had a season-high 10 blocks against Cal Poly last week, the second team they have out-blocked this season.
 
UCI hit .397 (30-3-68) in the first two sets against the Mustangs then just .142 (29-15-98) in the final three games.
 
Opposite Hunter Riedl led the Anteaters with 15 kills followed by middle blocker Ella Gardiner with 11 kills and a career-best five block assists.
 
Versus UCSB, Riedl once again led the Anteaters with a match-best 12 kills.
 
The Anteaters hit just .024 (25-23-85) against the Gauchos, the second lowest attack percentage of the season. 
 
UCI ranks fourth in the Big West in kills (12.39) and assists (11.49).
 
The Anteaters lead the Big West and are 28th in the nation in attacks per set at 36.88.
 
FAMILIAR FACES
Titan assistant coach Sabrina Hernandez was a member of the Anteater staff from 2003-11 when UCI head coach Ashlie Hain was a player then again from 2015-17, serving as an assistant with Hain.

Hawaii assistant coach Kaleo Baxter was also an Anteaters assistant coach Baxter in 2015.

THE OPPONENTS
CSUF is 1-12 overall and 0-4 in the Big West.
 
The Titans are looking to snap a six-match losing streak.

The Titans lone win came against American at home in five sets.
 
Recently, UCI is 15-3 against the CSF, sweeping the series last season. The Anteaters topped the Titans 3-2 in Fullerton then swept CSUF at the Bren Events Center.
 
UCI played two matches earlier this season in Titan Gym at the WAC/Big West Showdown.
 
Ameena Campbell was named Big West Freshman of the Week.
 
Hawaii enters the week, 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the Big West.
 
UH was receiving votes in the AVCA, but dropped out after being swept by Long Beach State last week.
 
They would go on to beat UC San Diego 3-0 to round out the week.
 
The Rainbow Wahine are 7-3 at home this season and will host Cal State Fullerton Friday before entertaining the Anteaters.
 
Hawaii has won the last five against the Anteaters with UCI's only victory a come-from-behind five-set victory on Oct. 4, 2019 (11-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 15-13) at the Stan Sheriff Center.
 
Hawaii leads the league in kills (13.62) assists (12.76) and is second in the conference in hitting percentage .231.

Middle blocker Amber Igiede tops the Big West in hitting percentage (.408) and points (4.71) and is second in Kills (3.76)

IN THE HUNT
Grad student Hunter Riedl has led UCI in kills six times this season, including the last three matches.

Riedl ranks 13th in kills among Big West players with a 2.65 average.

She has started all but one match and had 20 blocks and 40 digs.

ALL-AROUND THE COURT
Freshman Nicole Feliciano has been impressive in her first campaign.

The setter is fifth in the Big West in set assists (7.17) and 20th in digs (2.41).

She has recorded seven double-doubles and is averaging 0.91 kills per set. She also has 15 aces.

IN THE MIDDLE
Transfers Ella Gardiner and Isabella Scarlett are averaging 2.02 and 1.86 kills, respectively.

Gardiner has recorded kills in double-figures four times, including a career-high 14 kills twice. She leads the team with a 0.60 blocks average.

Junior Ofure Iselen is averaging 1,24 kills and 0.10 blocks per set.
