· The week started with a spirited comeback Thursday at USC. After going down 3-0 in 24 minutes, the Anteaters got to within one with goals in the 50th and 82nd minutes from England natives Sophie Gillies and Emilie Castagna assisted by a penalty kick save from Glo Hinojosa, but finished 3-2 in favor of the Trojans.
· Big West play began Sunday afternoon with UCI at UC San Diego. The Tritons went on top with a goal in the 15th minute, but hometown Anteater Gianna Creighton nudged her first career goal in in the 78th minute to finish the match a 1-1 draw.
· The Anteaters have a trio of players closing in on the illustrious mark of 50 career matches played at UC Irvine, something 91 Anteaters have reached. Destinee Manzo will hit 50 in her next match played, and Gianna Creighton and Maddy Chavez each at 48 career matches.
· The week featured more firsts with first career goals in each match starting Thursday with freshman Emilie Castagna's first point. Gianna Creighton followed that up with her first goal in her hometown Sunday in her 48th career match.
· Stat leaders on the 'Eaters including Tati Fung whose four assists lead the Big West, and Glo Hinojosa ranks 19th nationally with 810 minutes played which is tied for the conference lead along with the second-best GAA at 1.00.
· UC Irvine heads to UC Davis on Thursday to continue Big West action. The Aggies started strong with a 1-0 win over No. 5 Santa Clara in the opening weekend. It's been followed by mixed results going winless for the next three matches, a win over Oregon State, and most recently 1-0 losses at Hawai'i and Arizona to go to 3-4-2. UCI has just one win in the last four meetings with UCD. Seven different goal scorers account for their eight goals led by Leslie Fregoso's two and two assists.
· UC Irvine returns home to host CSU Bakersfield Sunday evening. The Anteaters rudely welcomed CSUB to the conference last year with a 5-0 win at Bakersfield. CSUB has matched their 2021 win total with three and did win their Big West opener downing CSUN, 3-1. Four Runners have multiple goals this year led by three from Regielly Halldorsdottir and 37 saves in nine matches for keeper Hollee Hercik.
· The prolific Anteater coaching staff is together for its eighth season, second-longest tenure among California programs. Assistants P.J. Woolridge and Danielle de Seriere will coach together with coach Juniper for the 150th time Sunday
