Men's Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Honors

IRVINE, Calif.
- UC Irvine men's tennis has been recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team for the sixth-straight year, while two Anteaters also garnered ITA Scholar-Athletes honors as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
 
UCI, which went 17-7 overall and claimed the 2022 Big West Tournament title, was one of 163 Division I men's tennis programs to receive All-Academic Team distinction. To be eligible, all varsity letterwinners must have combined for a minimum 3.2 team grade-point average during the 2021-22 academic year.
 
Individually, Mike Mkrtchian and Matthew Sah earned their third career ITA Scholar-Athlete award. Mkrtchian ranked second on the squad with 15 overall singles victories. He was 12-8 in dual matches and 7-1 against Big West opponents. Mkrtchian graduated in June with his bachelor's degree in business economics and will return next year to pursue a master's degree.
 
Sah led the 'Eaters with 17 overall doubles victories, 13 of which came in dual-match play. He is a rising senior majoring in computer science.
 
Mkrtchian and Sah added to their academic accolades as they both recently earned Dean's List recognition and were named to the Big West Spring All-Academic Team.
 
To be eligible, for the ITA Scholar-Athlete award, student-athletes must have carried a minimum 3.5 GPA for the 2021-22 academic year.
