FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -
The UC Irvine men's track & field team kicked off the 2022 NCAA West Preliminary Championships in the javelin and shot put Wednesday at John McDonnell Field on the University of Arkansas campus.

Freshman Liam Miksic finished 17th in the javelin, placing 19 spots ahead of his seeding entering the meet. Miksic got out to a strong start, taking the lead in Flight 1 with a first-round toss of 205-03 (62.56m). He stayed out front until late in the second round when he dropped to third, but Miksic wasn't done, launching a nearly seven-foot personal record on his third and final attempt to move back to the top of his flight at 215-11 (65.81m). Miksic's PR ranks second in program history.

Senior Noah Holm took 44th in the shot put. His top mark of the evening came on his second attempt where he hit 55-00.75 (16.78m). During the regular season, Holm had eight individual victories in the shot put including at the Big West Championships and at The Battle in the OC where he established a collegiate personal-best 58-08.75.

Holm returns to action in the discus at 11 a.m. (PT) on Friday, May 27.
